Dear Voces Pacis Singers,
I once again want to congratulate you on a wonderful concert last month as we collaborated with Kings Return for a rich and rewarding weekend. Now it is time to begin looking forward to our 2025-2026 Season 4 that will stretch us musically but will be well worth our efforts.
On the website you will find information outlining the concert programs for the June 28 and October 18 concerts. We have not made final decisions on repertoire for the March 21 concert, but we will be performing Heather Sorenson’s new work, SOLAS, on that concert; because it is not being premiered until October, published scores will not be available until late summer. So, we will have to provide you with the March repertoire selections in the fall and that will necessitate a separate order of music. Sorry about that, but we have no control over the release date of the publisher.
In the meantime, Penders is ready for you to place your order for the June and October concerts. Be sure to look at the repertoire selections (below) carefully. I have included a few pieces that we have performed before, and you will not want to purchase duplicate copies. Also, there will be two pieces on the June concert that will be available for you to download from the singers resource page on our website: those titles are “I Sat Down Under His Shadow” – E. C. Bairstow and “I Hear Thy Welcome Voice” – Ken Medema.
As a reminder you should ALWAYS have a copy of the Rutter “The Lord Bless You and Keep You” in your folder for each concert.
One selection on our June concert, the Eric Whitacre “Five Hebrew Love Songs” is a beautiful collection of contemporary love poems that will be a challenge for us, both musically and textually, since it is in Hebrew. FEAR NOT, most of the sounds are just like our English pronunciations, and those that are not, are like the German guttural sound; like the “ch” in “ach”. I have prepared a layman’s pronunciation guide to go along with a YouTube video where the poet reads the text; the link is in the guide. It will take a little practice, but once you have it in your head and ear, it is achievable. Please begin looking at it and practicing when you get your music and not wait until the week of the concert to work on it. I am sure the guide isn’t perfect, but it is a start.
Remember that for our June 27-28 weekend, we will be practicing on Friday evening and Saturday morning in the Choral Hall of Park Cities Baptist Church. We are most appreciative of this. The church is close to the Museum, so it makes complete sense to be close to the performance venue. Because we are having expenses for venue rental and have a somewhat limited audience space, we are presenting this concert twice on Saturday (2:30 and 4:00) and selling tickets to assist in defraying rental cost of the venue. Please order tickets early. Also note that there is a family rate for tickets.
This will be our best season yet. I am so honored and overjoyed to make quality music with you.
